Litton Das Facts

  1. Litton first came into the spotlight during the 2014–15 season of the National Cricket League (the oldest domestic first-class cricket competition in Bangladesh) where he amassed 1,024 runs at an astronomical average of 85.33 runs per inning. He was the highest run-getter in the tournament and his performances helped Rangpur Division clinch the championship.
  2. He was the highest run-getter in the 2016–17 season of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (a top-tier club-based List A tournament in Bangladesh), with 752 runs to his name in 14 matches.
  3. Litton was also the leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 season of the Bangladesh Cricket League (an annual first-class cricket tournament that began in Bangladesh in the 2012–13 season), with 779 runs to his name in just 6 matches.
  4. In July 2018, in the first match of a 2-match away bilateral test series against the West Indies, Bangladesh was skittled out for just 43 runs in the 1st innings. As of November 2022, this remained Bangladesh’s lowest score of all time in test match cricket. Litton was Bangladesh’s only player to have reached a double-digit score in that innings. His knock of 25 runs was 58.13% of Bangladesh’s total. As of November 2022, this remains a Bangladeshi record for the highest percentage of runs contributed by an individual in a team’s completed test match innings.
  5. In September 2018, Litton scored a brilliant hundred (his maiden ODI hundred) in the final of the Asia Cup (a continental limited-overs cricket tournament that was established in 1983 by the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) to promote goodwill between Asian countries) against tournament favorites India. He won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his performance even though Bangladesh lost the match off the final ball.
  6. In June 2019, in a league-stage match of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, against the West Indies, he recorded a remarkable knock of 94 runs not out (including 8 fours and 4 sixes) in just 69 balls to help Bangladesh hunt down a massive target of 322 runs, with 7 wickets to spare. This was Bangladesh’s then-highest successful run chase in ODI history and the then-second-highest successful run chase by any team in the tournament’s history.
  7. Litton’s unbeaten partnership of 189 runs with Shakib Al Hasan in that match was the highest partnership for Bangladesh, for any wicket, in the tournament’s history. It was also Bangladesh’s then-highest 4th-wicket partnership in ODIs. The match was Litton’s debut appearance in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
  8. He was a leading light for the Rajshahi Royals in their title-winning campaign in the 2019-20 season of the Bangladesh Premier League (the top-tier franchise-based professional T20 cricket league in Bangladesh), scoring 455 runs (3rd-highest) in the tournament. This was the franchise’s first title in what was the 7th edition of the league.
  9. In March 2020, in the 3rd match of a 3-match bilateral home ODI series against Zimbabwe, Litton recorded a partnership of 292 runs, with Tamim Iqbal, for the 1st wicket. As of November 2022, this remained the highest partnership for Bangladesh, for any wicket, in ODIs; and the 3rd-highest opening partnership by any team in ODIs.
  10. Individually, Litton scored 176 runs off 143 balls in the match and was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance. As of November 2022, this remained the highest individual ODI score recorded by a Bangladeshi player. He ended that series with 311 runs to his name, the most by any player on either side, and jointly won the ‘Player of the Series’ award.
  11. In January 2022, in the first match of a 2-match bilateral away test series against New Zealand, he contributed a crucial hand of 86 runs in Bangladesh’s sizeable 1st innings total of 458 runs. Bangladesh went on to record a memorable 8-wicket victory in that match, their first win in test match cricket against New Zealand. It was also their first win in international cricket against New Zealand in New Zealand.
  12. In the 2nd match of that series, Litton recorded his first century in an away test match. However, Bangladesh lost that match by an inning and 117 runs. Litton finished the 2-match series as Bangladesh’s highest run-getter (196 runs). By the end of that month, he had achieved his career-best ranking of world number 12 in test match cricket, as per the official ICC Men’s Player Rankings. This was the then-highest position that a Bangladeshi batter had reached in test match cricket in the official rankings.
  13. In March 2022, Litton played a crucial role in helping Bangladesh win its first ODI series in South Africa. He was the 2nd-highest run-getter (113 runs) in the series on either side, only behind Tamim Iqbal (129 runs), as Bangladesh scored a memorable 2–1 series win. Bangladesh’s win in the first match of the 3-match series was their first win against South Africa in an international cricket match held in South Africa.
  14. In May 2022, in a 2-match bilateral home test series, against Sri Lanka, he recorded scores of 88 runs, 141 runs, and 52 runs in the 3 innings that Bangladesh played. This helped him regain his career-best ranking of world number 12 in test match cricket, as per the official ICC Men’s Player Rankings. He also achieved 724 rating points, the then-highest number of rating points that a Bangladeshi batter had reached in test match cricket in the official rankings.
